Made in Britain

At Isomi, we believe that how something is made is as important as how it looks. For us, design is about provenance, responsibility and longevity. From the solid-surface reception desks that first defined our collection to the latest additions to our furniture range, every piece is proudly designed and made in the UK. Our journey began with a two-fold challenge: waste and inefficiency in the making of bespoke solid-surface reception desks, coupled with a lack of inspiring options in the off-the-shelf market. We set out to solve both. At the same time, we developed a new kind of modular furniture system, one that offered architects and designers exceptional quality, transparency and customisation, working with materials in their most natural state.

From the outset, we chose to keep our design and manufacturing in Cheshire, in the north of England. It wasn’t just about convenience; it was about supporting the specialist skills around us and staying close to the people who build our products. Working with partners local to us gives us transparency and quality control at every stage and helps sustain jobs, craftsmanship and expertise in our community. Clients often tell us how much they value being able to visit the workshop, meet the makers behind their project and see their pieces being built. That transparency and connection is an important part of our story.

While reception desks will always be at the heart of what we do, in recent years we’ve expanded to include a range of furniture collections. This felt like a natural progression: the same design language and attention to detail that shaped our desks now bring cohesion to the wider spaces where people work, gather or wait. Our furniture from collaborative tables to lounge seating shares the same ethos we’re known for: material innovation, craftsmanship and modular design. Producing these collections alongside our desks allows us to offer designers and clients a more complete and harmonious solution for their spaces.

As we’ve evolved, so has our approach to materials. We’ve expanded beyond solid surfaces to include more sustainable material options such as cork, timber and steel. Our Tejo collection, launched in 2024, made entirely from natural materials from recycled cork waste, natural latex, wool/hemp fabric, embodies a material-first, circular design approach that aims to minimise its environmental impact. We’ve also been exploring new production methods in the Knit One chair, developed using advanced 3D-knitting technology to design out waste entirely. The result is a lightweight, fully recyclable chair, designed for disassembly, supporting circular production with fewer resources used - no off-cuts, and components that can be repaired or reused.

Though our furniture now appears in offices and public spaces worldwide, our production remains firmly in Cheshire honouring local craft, championing responsible manufacturing and creating furniture designed with care and built to last.
