The Hub, a leading specialist fit-out contractor, were appointed to help develop a striking new exhibition at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) campus in Heidelberg, Europe’s flagship laboratory for molecular life science.
‘The World of Molecular Biology’ exhibition which opened at the end of 2022, engages a large audience with the wonders of biology. The exhibition covers 800 square metres and features more than 45 explorative exhibits. It includes new innovations and ground-breaking exhibition designs that utilise new technologies and techniques to match the evolutionary work undertaken by EMBL.
The central atrium of the Imaging Centre was the focus of a complete design and build by The Hub. Isomi supplied the bespoke furniture systems, working with The Hub to deliver on their design intent while remaining within budget. Designing an extraordinary exhibition space through the integration of Isomi solid surface units, state-of-the-art AV equipment, programmable lightboxes, and tactile models and interactives.
One of the standout features of the exhibition was the extensive use of complex thermoformed solid surface units provided by Isomi. These materials offered a versatile and visually striking solution that perfectly complemented the overall design aesthetic.
Brought to life by harnessing thermoforming properties of Isomi's solid surface material, heat and pressure expertly manipulated the material, molding it into sinuous and organic forms. Isomi provided consistent solutions and versatility to allow limitless application.
The result was a visually captivating and immersive experience that effectively communicated scientific advancements while showcasing superior craftsmanship and aesthetics. This project stands as a remarkable example of how innovative design elements and cutting-edge technology can elevate the impact of exhibitions in inspiring and educating visitors.
